Hi,
I have one albino male ACF together with three wildtype females in a 42 g tank. They´re all young, healthy adult frogs and it´s so much fun watching them!
My male is trying to amplex the females sometimes, but they´re not willing to breed yet (poor Nelson).
Anyhow, I would be interested in getting general information on which colour morphs can occur from albino x wildtype? I expect the wildtype to be dominant over the albino form, is this correct? Is it still possible to get some albino tadpoles? Just curious
Thanks in advance,
Julia

Hi Julia,
You might be interested in this thread which I saw recently: http://www.frogforum.net/aquatic-cla...us-laevis.html
It has photos of albino x wild type babies. So cute!
Hi Gemma,
thank you very much for the link! Lovely pics!
Wow, I didn´t know that even reticulated albinos are possible (although it is more important to raise healthy frogs than to aim for a certain colour, of course)
How are your froglets doing?

Neither did I until I saw that thread! I think they look lovely.
My tadpoles are doing well, thanks for asking. Some of them look just like tiny frogs now but with tails!![]()

Hi Julia:
ACF females become sexually mature at 9 months, males take up to a year. Both sexes will call. If the female is unresponsive to the male's advances, you may hear a slow, ticking sound like that of a clock. It is her way of telling him that she's not ready.

Hi,
@ Gemma: I´m glad to hear that your tadpoles are fine![]()
@Terry: Thanks. That´s what I´ve read. My youngest female is about 10 months old, the other two are at least 18 months old (got them 2.5 months ago as adults; they were used for egg collection in a lab before, so it´s quite likely that they might be older than this). The male always made me wonder: I´ve bought him last july and he was really tiny back then (an inch maximum). He developed his nuptial pats only two months later; at this point he also started calling. He immediatly amplexed the first female I introduced about 3 weeks later. I just can´t imagine that he was "old enough" already, but still he is sexually active since then. The females make clicking sounds each time he tries to mate though, so I don´t expect them to spawn anytime soon![]()
1rst pic: The male and my first female about 5 minutes after the female was moved into the tank
2nd pic: The same frogs about two weeks ago
3rd pic: The male and one of the new females
As you can see, Nelson´s trying really hard![]()
