Yeah the mushrooms are bizarre. There's no telling where they spring up. There seems to be a running debate on the dart frog forums over whether or not they're a possible health risk to frogs. Some believe they're not worth having around; others go out of their way to purchase mushroom kits. I'm leaving it in there as long as it doesn't proliferate and pop up all over the place.

I can only guess that the fern came out of spores that were already on the cork, even though I rinsed it repeatedly in scalding hot water before use. The constant moisture of the drip wall must've resurrected the spores.

i love when 'shrooms pop up unexpectedly. but try growing them intentionally? it's a nightmare...lol if that is tropical sheet moss i see in there, that is probably where the fern and 'shroom spores came from.

ah, you must mean dendroboard, where everything except broms, creeping fig, tillandsias and less than 1/4" of water is a health risk to frogs.....LOL

Ha! I know what you mean about dendroboard. Even though I've learned a lot over there and the people are really knowledgeable and generally mean well, if you ever talk about mixing pumilios with a chameleon and some hermit crabs, their server will physically implode.

Now that you mention it, I did try growing thuidium moss on that slab. Most of it didn't take, though. There's some other variety that sprang up in its place. Also got some riccia in the back that's doing well.

yeah, that's putting it mildly.....LOL but yes, there is a wealth of info there, albeit too conservative sometimes, in my opinion. but i have learned a TON about darts there. but i learned just as much, if not more about tree frogs and horned frogs from this forum. besides, this feels more like "home"
