I did also wash the dirt off of them from the container they come in. I don't know if that contributed to them being slippery. I had trouble even handling them with the tongs. Also the guy's at LLLreptile are telling us night crawlers (we bought these at Walmart) "are full of parasites" Has anyone else heard this? I've read about people on this forum using night crawlers, bought from walmart, without any problems.

Ok thanks, We are looking into starting a dubia colony as well. They wanted 16 dollars for 10 hissing cockroaches, so we passed on that and just picked up some crickets. I will just try to offer the night crawlers sparingly, I guess. Do you know of a good place to get Dubias? Or even willing to sell a small amount to get started?

Hissers are fine but not worth the cost.

Night crawlers do not have parasites. Best staple IMO.

Dubia are awesome, start with about 500 roaches if you want it to colonize and sustain your little frog. Also, you will have to tong feed. They burrow and will often just hold still if you drop em in. I used to flip them on their back so when they start kicking around the frog would attack.

I actually use crickets as a treat. They are very stimulating for the frogs. Actually, since my male is large, he just eats night crawlers and Dubia as a staple but has become accustomed to the tongs and large prey so he is pretty half hearted with the crickets....unless he's real hungry.
