Hey does anyone from NZ have any good information about Bell Frogs? I have four frogs I got from Animates as tadpoles but they are all different. Buddha is huge and green. The two medium sized ones I haven't named yet because they look identical are brown. And Quasimodo is brown and very small (as in a third of the size of Quasi). I am building a tank for them now and would like to set it up as close to natural as I can but I know that the frogs will have different needs. What age do they start breeding? How do I find out if they are male or female? Should I look at getting another green frog like Buddha?

Hi, Buddha I guessing is the female, I have noticed they are the hungriest and grow faster. Males more hidy. Do any have a green stripe down the middle of their backs. They do change colour to their surroundings, do u have a lot of brown in your tank. The strongest get the most and grow the fastest. They start breeding quite early. It is harder to tell the sex outside of summer because the males will croak. they will breed with other species, They are ferocious eaters and I am surprised they haven't eaten the smallest one. They are tree frogs so like the height in a tank. Somewhere to hide, somewhere to swim somewhere to climb, food. They will adapt even if are different. rain and mist can bring on breeding if the right conditions.

The two medium sized ones can sometimes look green. I always try and have enough food in the tank so I guess they don't feel starved enough to have a go at Quasi. So a half and half tank is the best idea for them them. I don't think they like running water from what I've seen when I put a water fountain in their old tank but some slow moving/ trickling water may be ok ae?

I have a fountain in one end of mine, they seem to like it. U add more ground space if u go up, they like to jump. The southern bell frogs are darker often, but have a green stripe from head all the way down the back. It doesn't have to be half half water/land but they do like to swim and is good exercise for them. From many places I have read pet shops cant always guarantee what they have, lots are donated. You smallest frog, does it look like the others?
