Hi Chris,
I'm not sure about the air stone, as the need for it may vary from one species of tad to the next!
Yikes!
If they are all "different species" they should all be separated. ie Do the best you can to separate what looks like the 'different species'. Putting the ones that look identical ---together. Perhaps get a few inexpensive critter keepers. They could start eating each other !!!!!
Then, they will need to be identified so you can prepare to house, feed, and maintain them properly. ie temps humidity etc.
Sounds like you have a big job on your hands.
How many are you expecting ?
You could post photos of them? We will try to help to identify them.
Lynn

Sure when they arrive I definitely will take photos.I'm only getting 6 and seperating them will be no prob I can just go to my local pet store and stock up. Wow I just learned something new I didn't know tadpoles ate each other I only thought that happened if one dies, I know frogs do but not tadpoles.
Chris ,
If a tadpole is hungry enough it will go after another tad. Plus you don't want to ever mix species.
Specifically, I meant if you leave them together........... because different species will develop at different rates. Some tadpoles can remain in their tadpole stage as long as 8 months, while others only take 6 to 9 weeks.
Identifying them is going to be an important and difficult task.
Research all the frogs in the region where they came form. Sometimes articles showing an adult frog will also show photos of what they look like as tadpoles.

You know what your absolutely right some some can take up to 3-8 weeks I just did more research, actually I just learned that in central Fl which is where the tadpoles are coming from, there is 16 species out of the 27 native ones in FL but actually the other 11 species is not uncommon to find there either just rarely. The site I went was very Informative with pics and information of each species ufwildlife.ifas.ufl.edu/frogs/central.shtml
Well I hope to get a bullfrog or 2. I also stocked on supplies, thanks for the advice.
Hi Chris,
I'd have to agree. It is very important to know the species, especially for when they transform.
A simple set-up is easy...dechlorinated water, food, and air. I prefer a small gentle filter also. If your home is cold you may also need a small water heater. That would depend on the species.
If you use a filter you should cover the water intake with mesh or tulle if the tadpoles are very little.
I used aquarium gravel in my set-up to provide a place for good bacteria to thrive. Once cycled, they help to breakdown nitrates created by waste.
Have you ever owned fish or an aquarium? Try researching the nitrogen cycle of an aquarium. I can teach you more if you've never had one.
Back to tads...they will eat tadpole bites food found at the pet store, dried green seaweed strips also found at the pet store, and you can make boiled romaine lettuce for them (I froze mine into ice cubes to save them). The seaweed and lettuce provide them with vitamins and calcium.
Boiled romaine lettuce cubes...
Here is a pic of a simple set-up...
I looked up the site you posted. It is very informative. I think you will be able to identify the species with the information they provide.
Raising tadpoles is fun. It's neat to see them morph into frogs.

Wow nice set up thank you so much for the pics helps out a ton gave me an Idea. Luckily my Local petstore is going out of buisness so they had a sale of 10 xLarge kritter keepers for 10 bucks. Plus I got Duckweed and other Live plants and yes I have an aqaurium as we speak I have the tanks set up since friday to cycle through with the reptisafe I have a heater as at night my house tends to get a little chilly. Thanks for the pics of the lettuce preperation and the Green sea weed very informative.
You're welcome. Sounds like your prepared and ready for them to arrive. I hope you'll share pictures with us along the way.
P.S. I cook (boil) the lettuce in dechlorinated water for 20 to 30 minutes until soggy, wilty. Then freeze right in the water you boil them in.
