Hey all Im getting my first pac man frogs tomorrow afternoon!
Im getting one Albino and one Fantasy frog (as well as a tomato frog and a Cuban tree frog, will post about them in the separate threads). I am supper stoked! and have been doing tons and tons of research and it is all so overwhelming!
Any advice for a Newbie?
I am most confused about the lighting and how often they need to be on and what types to purchase. Ive already purchased the tanks they will be living in.
Thanks
You dont need UvB for the pacs. If you want to use a light for the albino for display do not use Uvb. For your fantasy, if you want light so you can see him just get a Uvb 2.0 at the most and put it on top of the screen. I dont use any white lights on my pacs. They like it dark. 12 hour light cycle is good. I heat with lights exclusively. I either use the zilla mini halogen domes or a deep dome with GE lower watt halogen floods (alot cheaper and they last for ever). I tell everyone I know to start off right with zoomed hydro therm temp humidity controllers. They auto regulate your temp and humidity. I dont use the humidity function, just the heat. Makes life easy. I mist once or twice a day as needed.
Welcome and congrats on the new frogs!!!!

Thanks! I am really exited! Where would I purchase a zoomed hydro therm temp humidity controller. Would my Local repltile store carry them? Im going to go there anyway to get the rest of my supplies So ill Just ask them.
oh yeah!! that's what I call shopping, 4 frogs at once, dream of mine lol Congrats!!!!! please post pic when you get them
I'll tell you that no matter how much research have you done once you get the frog for the first time you realize that you know nothing lol at least it is for me when I get a new species lol
so if you have or will have any questions don't hesitate to ask, doesn't matter if they might sound stupid, it is always better to ask!
check care sheet here on a forum.
I agree with DeeDub 100%, hydrotherm is a life saver, i believe amazon sells them for the lowest price out there. i got mine off ebay cos amazon doesn't ship to Canada.
with that thing you don't need humidity gauge or thermometer and if plugged to the fogger and heat lamp or UTH ( placed on a side) you can be sure temp and humidity is always where need to be. and if you plug your lights to a timer all you ever need to worry is feeding and cleaning and taking nice pictures to post them here
now lights. NEVER use UVB for albino, ever! Just get some kind of regular low voltage energy saving lamp bulb and use it to create day/night cycle. Careful asking pet store people for advice and following it, way too many "help my frog is dying" threads on there.
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
Thanks guys! everyone arrived safely! Everyone got put into their own enclosure and everyone has already eaten a little bit. I will post picture in a couple days. Just want to give everyone some time to settle in before I harrass them with my camera haha.
On another note when I went to the Local Reptile store to purchase lamps and other supplies I saw a gorgeous Adult Albino Pac man frog, which ended up coming home with me. So I had to buy yet another tank lol
