Thanks a bunch for the pointers Lynn! That five gallon one would be great for a pair of Ranitomeya Variabilis. I did some research on them yesterday. Turns out they are a great starter species. I've read that they are out going for thumbnails, and that they prefer lots of vertical space. They are also easy to breed and are non-obligate egg feeders which means I can remove the tads and raise them separately (since they are cannibalistic). I also had the great fortune of finding a vendor who sells them in trios for about 65$. Now I just have to save up my pennies so I can get all the supplies.![]()

Hi,
I have been thinking about you!
I have been searching for a really large dispenser! I found this one ( 5 gallons) sold by william sonoma. I bet it can be found at an outlet? Is this similar to yours?
Glass Beverage Dispenser | Williams-Sonoma
If you should decide to do this, could you let me know. I have this on my 'to do list'. My other small ( frogless) one is really very pretty. ( I used gravel substrate , no barrier, ABG soil) It has one ( fern) plant and moss growing beautifully. Put it together on a whim!
FYI- I had my -three- recent dart builds drilled for draining ....... 1- 1/2 " off the floor of the viv. The center of the drain hole is just below the level of the hydro. It has turned out to be a worthwhile investment. As the mist king adds water slowly, it drains into a bucket on the floor. I am still fine tuning as the mister is also used for my tree frogs.

Hey Lynn, Thanks for the tip on the dispenser! I just found a 3 gallon one for 34$ on the cheap. It looks like it can hold a few small bromeliads. I'm thinking I can get a small cork tube or some drift wood to run vertically up the center, and drill holes in it to mount the plants. For the drainage layer I'm going to use large polished stones and try to grow live moss over them. I'll probably put some pothos in there too to give them something more to climb and sleep on. I'll also place a few small cork pieces around the bottom to provide lots of good hiding places. I'm going to give this setup a try, and see how the frogs like it. I've decided on D. Imitator. They are only about 3/4 inch, and are more hardy and out going than other thumbnails. I also read they get along pretty well. I'm fixin' to go shopping for all the decor. I'll have to post some pictures once I get it set up. Thanks so much for all the help!
what a great thread i cant wait to see the finished product. when i was in 3-4 grade we build ones like this for a science project (minus the frogs) it worked out great. I've also seen it done inside quarter machine (for candy, toys ect) and those were really cool too.
