Hi, I am new to this forum. I’ve had a male White’s Tree Frog for just over a year. The store owner told me he was about a year old when I bought him. He is a real beauty and we love taking care of him. I thought it would be nice to get him a pal, but the few other WTFs I have seen for sale have been female, which I know are larger, but they are HUGE compared to Mr. T-W! I am very afraid that they would eat him. Does anyone else have such a small two year old Whites Tree Frog? He still sheds sometimes, so perhaps he is still growing? I have a women's medium sized hand, so you can get an idea of his size from the pics. Thanks!
Welcome to the forum
Frogs do not shed to grow. They shed as kind of a cleansing I guess you could call it. Just to get rid of old skin and get fresh new skin. He doesn't look too small. He's about the same size as my bigger male, Glurmo. I would assume Glurmo is about a year and a half old. I'm not really sure when WTFs stop growing though. I'm sure someone else on the forum has an answer to that question! I think getting another one would be fine as long as it's about the same size. What size set-up do you have? I strongly recommend at least a 30 day quarantine period if you do get a second frog though. That way if the new frog has any kind of disease or parasites it wont pass it on to your frog. After 30 days if nothing seems wrong then you can put them together![]()
Hi
Yes , welcome to Frog Forum.
Your frog looks good. If you decide to get another, simply wait until you find one about the same size , or smaller. As Michelle has mentioned, quarantine is absolutely necessary. You could do a ( "quarantine" ) FF search and find quite a bit of information regarding this. Sadly, there is also plenty of information about problems that occur if quarantine is omitted.![]()
I'm sure you know , how important it is to have ample room for both in what will be their permanent enclosure.
As my collection of tree frogs grew , I prepared the larger/permanent enclosures first. Then transferred the frog ( s) I had into it after each quarantine period. I used the older/smaller tank, that was then empty, for the quarantine/hospital thank. One should keep a "hospital tank" anyway. This is a great excuse to get a nice new enclosure! Check out the exo-terra 36"H x 24Wide x 18" deep. No such thing as too big !
Enjoy !

Thank you Michelle and Lynn, I am glad to hear that Mr. Tinky-Winky is a normal size. I will just keep watching for a WTF of a similar size at the store I buy his food from. I'd definitely quarantine any new frog and get a larger home for them to share. THANKS!
i definitely agree with Lynn and Michelle. he looks about normal size for his age. and a cute lil bugger at thatand i especially like one point that lynn made. a hospital tank of some sort is a must. nothing worse for the little ones if they get sick on a monday and they have to wait on their human's schedule to be "hospitalized". i actually keep my quarantine tanks and a hospital tank under my 125 so they never have to wait if something goes awry.
P.S. you also got lucky to have two of the most knowledgeable ladies on the forum to respond. these girls know their frogs![]()

Hi Bill,
I agree on all counts! Michelle and Lynn gave great info. And my frog is a cute little thing.
Not sure if I will invest in a hospital tank though! I've had him a year and so far no issues at all. (Although I admit I freaked out the first time i saw him shedding and eating his skin, I thought all the contortions were a seizure or something. Thanks to Google and You-tube I quickly "diagnosed" the "problem").
Also, there is an exotic pet store very near my home that's open 7 days a week, and a few different exotic pet vets nearby, so in case of illness, I'll be able to get help quickly.
THANKS
Ahhh, see? Listen to the girls, not me. I've always said i'm full of it......lol

If you get a second frog you'll want a second tank anyways for the quarantine period. That smaller tank could second as a hospital tank. The reason you would want a hospital tank with two frogs is so that you can quickly remove a sick frog to prevent it from getting the other one sick. It's also good so you can monitor feeding and pooping easier. So with one frog a hospital tank isn't really necessary in my opinion. But with more than one it's essential that you be able to separate sick frogs.
And of course (for me anyways) there's always that possibility of "unexpectedly" bringing home an adorable female Australian WTF when I come across one...![]()
