He has been shedding for about a week and now. How long does it normally take for one of these little dudes to shed.
1. Size of enclosure - 10g
2. # of inhabitants - specifically other frogs and size differences - Single tenant frog.
3. Humidity - would love to tell you if I could get an accurate read. I have a meter in there but I dont trust it. His substrate is very moist and gets misted twice daily.
4. Temperature 76.8 at night and 81 during the day
5. Water - type - for both misting and soaking dish- treated tap, treated with Reptisafe
6. Materials used for substrate Eco-Earth Coconut fiber.
7. Enclosure set up i.e. plants (live or artificial), wood, bark and other materials. - Cork Bark log (halved) fake vine type plant.
- How were things prepared prior to being put into the viv.
8. Main food source - Crickets (pre-gutloaded from the store
9. Vitamins and calcium? (how often) Do I need them if the crickets are pre-gutloaded?
10. Lighting One 40w Day light, blue
11. What is being used to maintain the temperature of the enclosure 2 UTH heaters mouted on the sides.
12. When is the last time he/she ate Friday 30,Nov,2012
13. Have you found poop lately - Nope, He pooped the day after I got him, 2 pretty good sized ones at that. Hasn't had a BM in about a week now.
14. A pic would be helpful including frog and enclosure (any including cell phone pic is fine)
15. How old is the frog - my best guess, he is no bigger than a silver dollar, couple of months old.
16. How long have you owned him/her - Couple of weeks
17. Is the frog wild caught or captive bred - Not sure
18. Frog food- how often and if it is diverse, what other feeders are used as treats
19. How often the frog is handled - Not that often.
20. Is the enclosure kept in a high or low traffic area - Living room, not much traffic where he is at.
21. Describe enclosure maintenance (water changes, cleaning, etc) um? not sure what you mean here.
Here some pics, just took them as I was writing this. He seems perfectly healthy I'm just not to sure how to go about helping him shed.
They shed pretty often when they're little, probably several times a week. You mean he's been constantly yawning and pulling at his skin like he would during a shed, or that you've seen him doing it several times? It doesn't take very long. Probably 5-15 minutes of 'puffing up' with air beforehand and then maybe another 5-10 minutes to actually eat the shed.
You've probably just seen him shedding several different times. I doubt he'd look that healthy if there were something that seriously wrong going on.
If you're curious to see if there's any shed hanging on (usually around the legs, it's not really a problem) you can put him in the water dish and you'll see it floating around. You can just gently pull it off.
Daylight blue bulbs are for live plants. Switch to a Exo Terra 75% intense spotlight, but use a Fluker's 5.5" clamp lamp with dimmer switch. Do not use the spotlight bulb with a normal clamp lamp. Its too powerful. 50 watt is best.
When they hit growth spurts they will shed every other day sometimes every day. If he is eating, growing, bathing and not lethargic or acting ill then he is probably fine.
Last question on the list is asking how often you clean the tank, what do you use to clean it, and how often yoy change the frog's water.
He was in a 5.5g tank for about 10-12 days, he has only been in that tank a few days. I change his water daily as well. How often should I clean his tank? Do I throw out the substrate or reuse it? I have heard you only need to clean it once a month or so, or is that really wrong?
I would use a 50w but I have having issues with humidity. I don't want to dry out the substrate. I asked for a reptifogger for christmas so we shall see if that works.
Check for poops everyday and scoop em out . throw away the old substrate and add new once a month

everyone got you covered, I'll just add. If you feel like your frog needs help with shed, do a bath for him, just warm regular de-chlorinated water, water level up to his chin. I'm doing it for my pacs every week, it also helps them to exchange their body fluids.
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
