It definitely would. That would decrease the height that the pump has to push the water. Do you know what kind of pump it is?

that's a small one, i wouldn't try to go much higher than about 12" or so. play around with different heights. now you see why in my thread how important water testing is.

and remember, you can always lower the beginning of your drip wall as well. you would just have to cover up the tubing

yup. unfortunately. unless you are planning side panels? they would hold it up, but otherwise, the soil just won't hold securely enough you know that you can try though? you could try siliconing a strip of velcro across the top. instead of relying on the adhesive that is on the strip, peel the backing off and press it into a small bead of silicone. that way you don't have to end up chiseling it out later

what do you mean by the rest of it? the bottom eggcrate holds the bottom in and velcro across the top holds the top portion. in the case of it being top heavy, it acts like a hinge when the bottom portion is secured. the velcro would be providing a "latch". downside is, i have no idea if the velcro would hold up. there are industrial hook and loop tapes out there that don't have any cloth, those are outstanding. i have installed gps units in vehicles about 6 years ago and i see them today and the velcro is still holding. i'm not sure if home depot sells that kind or not.

so we decided to go a different route with the drip wall. poking holes into the tubing wasn't working out so hot. so we bought some 1/4 in. pvc piping and will drill holes into it, have the tubing go into one side and plug the opposite side. Lets hope it works this time.

it will work, but will dry very dull looking. 2 part epoxy will dry clear. i used clear acrylic nail polish to seal the mushrooms in my mantella tank
