I assume you're talking about water dechlorinator. I own several Bettas and if that's what I need will water conditioner for fish work? And if you're wondering its not the "stress coat" that helps the natural slime coat for fish. It's just standard water conditioner.

I use Prime for my reptiles and fish. Works great. Most water conditioners have deaminator and dechlorinator in them, but check to see it has both to make sure. Yeah, you need to change out the substrate asap. A day or so in it probably hasn't hurt him, but if you leave it he will tox out.

Britta filters don't remove any chemicals. They only remove organic material like bacteria.

My Britta can pull the chlorine taste out of my water and at my house the water out of the tap tastes like it came out of a pool. The Britta removes any and all odors and tastes of chlorine. That's what an activated charcoal filter does. I will resoak my substrate in dechlorinated water tomorrow.

Your water more than likely contains chlorimines as well which are difficult to remove with out a conditioner. Filtration doesn't remove them. Heavy metals are another issue. Fish water de-chlorinatores are fine, but ones that promote the slime coat are ideal as they do the same fro frogs.

Sorry about the misspelling on my first response. My phone likes to correct me inccorrectly most of the time.

Yeah I have renamed my iPhone the grammar nazi. I just let it do what it does and deal with the consequences later lol.

On a side note. I am having quite the issue with regulating heat in the tank. I literally have a thermo-controlled space heater aimed at my tank. And I have heard conflicting reports of using Sphagum Moss or not using it. I have about a 90% cocnut fiber 10% Spagum Moss mix that I am using at the moment. I broke the moss apart and mixed it really well with the fiber so there isn't huge chunks of it every where.

If they eat any of the sphagnum moss it can cause an intestinal blockage(impaction) which can lead to death. It can be used if you feed the frog in a separate container or tong feed the frog.

As for heating. Post a pic of the enclosure. What size enclosure are you using?

You can place a UTH on the side of the tank and if necessary buy a Fluker's Clamp Lamp with a dimmer switch and use infrared heat bulbs no higher than 50 watts. What species of Pacman do you have?

For heat I have a UTH on the side as well as a red bulb. That way I can really bump up the temp if it's getting really cold at night, or just turn one on for daytime.

Britta can remove straight chlorine from the water, but much chlorine used in water treatment reacts with organic matter, turning it into a type of trihalomethane. Britta can't remove THM's though. Humans mostly just care about the chlorine taste, so you're right there. I usually just don't go into the detail, but the chemical threat of chlorine-treated water to frogs isn't eliminated by the Britta

I have a Red Bulb (50W) on him now.. I am having a rough time stableizing heat vs humidity though. Light off, 80%HM Light on, 60%HM. Tricky little things I tell ya. I cleaned out his tank and re soaked all his substrate in the treated water. Just use Top Fin Water conditioner, and I threw a cricket in there for ghits and siggles, it died, a fast, horrible death.

If their substrate is appropriately moist, the ambient humidity can drop a little without it being a huge issue. Don't worry too much about it, just try to figure out a good system within a few days.
You can try putting saran wrap over 2/3 of the screen on top. That should help keep the humidity up.

Yeah, I got a sticky mat heater on the side of his tank now and I don't have "Saran Wrap" but the PetCo bag is doing nicely on top of the tank. Gonna run and grab some of that "Press N' Seal" stuff tomorrow.
