Default What would you choose to do......

If you had a spare 55 gallon tank. And you couldnt make up your mind. What would you choose to keep?
I have experience with Phyllomedusa savaugii, RETF's, mantellas, Melanophryniscus stelzneri, Kassina maculata, as well as Dendrobates tinctorius & auratus dart frogs. I also like the mossy frogs but never kept them yet. In the 90's I had acquired a sick Phyllomedusa bicolor which only lived 48 hours. I'd like to try a captive bred bicolor someday, but with mascarino out of business, I dont know who would have them.

That's funny that you named phyllomedusa bicolor frog in this thread! I just watched a documentary which i will post a link down below but dude goes out near Columbia and is trying to find that frog and get high (trip) off of, overall that frog looks awesome and wicked friendly.

I think The Giant Waxys need more ventilation than a glass tank would allow. Humidity needs to be very low for these frogs. I think you would need a screen cage. I personally would put a group of Tomato frogs in there

If I did P. bicolor, then I'd build a screen cage for it like I did when I kept P. sauvagii. The only thing thats kept me from trying bicolor again is the lack of c.b. frogs on the market.

And what would you stock it with? Im not limiting my choice to my past experiences.

I would stock it with dendrobates leucomelas and freshwater shrimp in the aquatic section. They weren't in your list if you are avoiding dendrobates, but still in the hunt with darts, some of the ranitomeya (?) Species are somewhat arboreal. Outside or darts, mossy's. Definitely mossy's

but Lija, you know better than anyone that waxy's wouldn't work in a tank and it goes without saying that you would go for a horned species but you did choose one awesome species!!

55 gal tank with screen top would be perfectly fine for waxys provided it is tall enough they don't need screen cages, but do need a good ventilation and low humidity, both can be easily achieved in screen top tanks. I keep mine separately in 2 sets of 18x18x24 exo terra.

I see. I was always under the impression that they needed a screen cage. Good to know, thanks
