    Default Questions and what sex

Hi just got a Gaint African Pyxie that is a little over 1 month old based on what the shop keeper told me and had a few questions.

I have him/her setup in full aquatic for now, but was wondering when if ever should I switch over to eco earth or is full aquatic fine?

How much should I feed it? I heard you should feed it daily till it wont eat anymore, but I feel as if he/she will never stop eating.

Also wondering if anyone could sex my frog as well. I know its not the best picture Ill see if i can take a better one when the sun is up.Name: P1010310.jpg

Still too early to tell sex. If you could get a couple more pics might be able tell a little better. Get a straight on from the front, one closer from the top. You'll want a little land area so if it wants to burrow (eco earth) it can. Congrats on getting a Pyxie, they are awesome!

Also, what are you feeding? Usually you use the "as much as they'll eat in 10-15 min" rule. Stick with nightcrawlers, roaches, and crickets. You can do mice on occasion (once every 45 days to 60 days), but just don't over do it on the mice or other high fat feeders. Stay away from anything wild caught, as well as fish. Frozen thawed chicks are a great treat as well. Gut load roaches and crickets. Dust with high quality calcium+D3 (these guys don't need uvb lights) twice a week. Give a vitamin powder once or twice a week too.

I had my pyxie in a all water set up until yesterday (had him since July). He did really well, until it seemed he was shedding excessively (but it could be my paranoia). I have him on ecoearth now. But while he was in a water set up, I gave him slate to get up out of the water. As he got bigger (and produced more waste), I invested in a huge canister filter, which did a good job keeping the water clean. Part of the reason I had him in a water set up, was because these guys tend to accidently eat a of the bedding. I know people say it won't hurt them, but I've read and seen things to the contrary (this is mostly a baby frog problem). Since he's a big boy now, I think any bedding can easily be passed. If you keep him in a water set up, you'll need to change that water almost daily.

it depends on what kind of bedding is used, eco earth is the safest.

generalTso is is too early to sex the frog yet, you've been given excellent advice on 15 min rule, do so and expect a lot of food to be eaten in those 15 min lol.

Those frogs are not aquatic, but will spend a lot of time in a water. Do half/half or so set up, water and eco earth, you can put in some hide, log, foliage, the frog will choose where he wants to be, check the forum, there are a lot of amazing set examples.
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!

@DeeDub Thanks for the advice! Yea Ive been feeding him mainly crickets right now waiting for my Dubia roachs to breed. Plan to do some nightcrawlers when he gets a bit bigger and a wax worm once a month.

In regards of eco earth I did read about some who accidentally ate some and did not fare to well so plan to keep him in water till he gets a tad bit bigger. I do change the water daily and has some safe plastic plants in there for it to hide itself.

Here some more images of him/her
