New vivarium too cold

I have set up my viv which is an exo terra viv 60x45x60cm i have a 7x11" 11w heat mat under one side which has coco husk and the other side has moss i have the heat mat on a thermostat with the temp senser half way up the warm side and another on the cooler side they are both reading 20c ish my question is how can i add extra heat.

do i put a heat mat on the side or get an infer red bulb/ceramic heat bulb i am getting my whites tree frogs next weekend and buy my bits off ebay so fast responces will be appreciated thanks

Try it with the heat pad on the side. They don't work from the bottom if you have more than about half an inch (1.5 cm) of substrate on top of them, and they can be a fire hazard in that situation.

i put the heat mat on the side and the temp has gone up to 24.6c on the warm side and 20c on the cool side if i left the heat mat on all the time and got an infar-red bulb and controlled that through the thermostat if this would work what size bulb do you think i would need i know i keep asking questions but i just want it right before i get my frogs thanks

i am going to the pet shop in a few hours. i was thinking this morning i looked at my heat mat and it is 14.5w 11x10" the viv is 60x45x60 exo terra with the back ground still in place i know some take it out thanks for your help

Hello there!

You can get higher wattage heat mats if need be, but in this case a low wattage 25-30w spotlight mounted outside the tank aimed at a branch giving a hotspot of 28-30C might be an idea they shouldn't suffer an adverse reaction to a drop back down to 24-25C on a night so you could put the spotlight on a timer!


Also you don't say if you have any other sort of lighting in/on the tank?
