The earthworms from Walmart are way too long and it would be cheaper and more convenient for me to get worms from the yard as we have not used fertilizer for a while on the grass but even this is probably not safe for the frogs. If roaches did not cause impaction I'd consider them. I don't want flies in the house so yeah, I'll have to research this more. Maybe guppies if I can determine they are not sick. Reading up on bugs can be a project for me.
Getting worms from your yard is not safe. Some of the fertilizers could still remain in the soil and poison the frog. You can use a large tote to keep them in for breeding. You could jjust order a 200 count container online and use that to begin breeding the worms. Crickets are easy to breed, but the smell bad.

I just made a house for my mealworms: a plastic container with lid. Now I see the problem at the pet store with dead worms! They need correct temp, more air than store containers provide, no added water except a carrot or potato, some powdered grain or corn mash bedding along with a fold of paper to crawl into. Yep, gonna try this and maybe try crickets later. I wish I could buy or breed small earthworms, too. The store keeps stocking dead wax worms! They don't even notice!

    don't feed mealworms! Please!
you can breed earthworms, same process like with nightcrawlers.
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
