I saw an ad on Craigslist a few days ago for someone adopting out a Red-Eyed Tree Frog for free, so since I had an empty small exo terra I said I would take it. I'm very glad I did, what a cool animal!
This is my first frog, first amphibian of any kind actually, and I was wondering if some of you experts could look at it and see if it looks okay, and healthy? I am thinking male from the narrow pointy snout, what do you think?
Now she did tell me that the frog is very lazy, and once in the tank he did find a spot on the glass and basically go to sleep, and he seemed to keep one eye closed more than the other, though he could open it too. He also has little bits of dirt stuck all over him from his previous home, will he be able to get those off? I wonder if he may have some in the one eye? I have him on paper towel for now, but will change to coco coir later on.
He is in a 12 x 12 x 12 exo for now, is this okay? He isn't that big, but at two years old likely full grown? I plan to upgrade to a 12 x 12 x 18 with live plants, will that be suitable for him for life?
This is his current setup, any advice? The water used is spring water. It has a heat mat on the back of it, as it is fairly cool in my house. It gets the back glass around 82.
And here he is. The first pic shows how he was closing the one eye, that one had flash on.
