Guess I should do an introduction.... I'm Elizabeth. I live in the mountains of Virginia. It's beautiful here.
Have always wanted to keep frogs, and always caught wild frogs and kept them short term as a kid... Kept fish, sallies, lizards, newts, and even some really crazy bugs... Rode horses, had birds cats dogs hamsters rabbits guinea pigs I like pets... Contemplated my own petting zoo for birthday parties... But have always really loved Herps and amphibians..
My favorite pet was a Carolina anole that lived free in my house on a huge ficus tree. Also had a pet iguana live free in my house. For some reason she only pooped on linoleum...strange.... My sister rescued her off the outside wall of her college dorm in Indiana. She loved bananas and we coaxed her out of trees when she escaped the house by climbing them and offering bananas.
Love plants and aquaria of all sorts, and really loved my salt water reef tanks, although they were expensive and technical and eventually life took me out of that hobby.... Kids have a way of making that happen. (Two incredible boys, 4&5).
I have a 75 g ex reef tank built into the wall of my living room. I'd like to keep frogs in it. While I started thinking fire bellied toads, I eventually gave into my life long love of dart frogs, after getting over thinking they were too hard for me.
I'm hoping to set up a vivarium with a group of most likely D. Leucomelas, although that's not set in stone til I buy them. I want to keep something easy until I get the hang of this. Nothing's worse than killing something you've worked really hard to keep. It's an adventure....
So far I'm planning a false bottom egg crate and great stuff build, using titebond and coco fiber to cover. I'm contemplating keeping fish in there too, having a hard time stepping fully away from aquaria. Once again not set in stone.
I want a waterfall, mostly because I want it... and I love technical builds.
I'm fascinated by self-sustaining ecologies. I like things that rot and make things better. Decomp is cool, and I'm weird yes I know.
I love orchids, tillandsia, and carnivorous plants. Hiking, gardening, snow/wake boarding and photography. And wine. I really love wine. :-)
Guess that's me in a nutshell ! And all my weird idiosyncrasies.... Pretty much, I'm awesome an so is this forum. I'm hoping well get along great! Anyway, I'm excited about it...
P.s. once I can take pics of my own frogs, ill get a profile pic, I promise... Unless I find a really great flying monkey.
Cheers y'all!!
