    Exo Terra makes a great fully submerge-able filter. The F150, F250, and F350. The F150 being only mechanical filtration and the higher models being 3 stage. Put's out just enough current to keep tank flow. You can get the F250 for around $15 on amazon. Hope this helped!

    I have a Tetrofauna reptofilter in a 45gal tank with 3 FBT and they more around a lot. I am setting up a 20 gal long tank now for newts now and was thinking about the same filter in there in you want me to put the filter in the 20 long and see how much space in left I will do it for you.

    I'm not sure the name of this filter but I know exo terra and zoo-med have filters for like firebelly toads. Basically for low levels of water. And as far as the still water they like, I made a waterfall in mine and they absolutely loved it.
