    Default A few questions.

So I have been thinking about getting live Dubia Roaches for my Pacman frog. (My first frog died cause of a mistake I made by listening to store clerks.)
Any who. Lol. So I am asking advice on here for now on, about food. I recently bought a new frog, Not sure if it's a boy or girl, it's still a baby and it's a feisty little booger, very active and can catch his pray with ease.
I am feeding him crickets, dusting them with Vit D and Calcium and I just here all the time that crickets are not that great, but Night crawlers and Dubias are.

So back on topic, I have a few questions about these roaches.
    1. Are they a better and more healthier staple food than Crickets?
    2. Should I dust these roaches with Calcium and Vit D?
    3. Are they harder to catch for a frog?
    4. If yes? Should I feed these roaches to my frog with tongs? (Like I said, my frog can catch crickets with ease, so should I still use tongs? I don't know if he will eat from it. He doesn't eat from my hand....)

Thank you in advance. When He/She gets bigger, I'll post pictures and hopefully you guys can determine if it's a boy or a girl. Still haven't names it cause I don't know its gender. I'm weird like that.
    Have a nice day!

None of my pacmans really like roaches. If you do get some, you should dust them with vitamins / calcium as you would crickets. I voted for Nightcrawlers as they are easier to digest, bigger, and cheaper than dubia's. Easier for them to catch too since half the time I throw a dubia on eco earth they burrow into it immediately. That's just me though, you can feed them from tongs but some frogs won't eat from them.

I prefer nightcrawlers and would suggest nightcrawlers. Doesn't mean you can't try dubia's and form your own opinion on them.

Thank you, that was really helpful.
I've been wanting to try Nightcrawlers but I believe they're way to big for my frog to eat right now, and I was afraid the worms would burrow immediately into the eco earth. I'll definitely try out Nightcrawlers eventually.

The great thing about nightcrawlers, they're one size fits all since you can cut them to the size that you need and save the rest for later. Just make sure you start cutting towards their rear, not the front.

Sounds good. And do I refrigerate them in the package that they come in?
And should I dust them with Vit D and calcium?

Yes and yes. Make sure you buy safe worms too, meaning the don't have any chemicals or dye. I've heard that Wal-Mart worms are safe. I've personally never bought from there though. Petsmart and Petco sell them as well I believe, they are just expensive. I don't think you'll have that hard of a time finding them. Just make sure they don't smell or look funky and you should be OK.

One feeder people always overlook is Blatta latteralis roaches. They are like crickets but never hide and never freeze. They seem to always walk towards animal's mouths. Check them out, they're also way more nutritious than crickets.

preferable staple - night crawlers and pacman food.
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
