    Default Sunday Morning Photo-op

I thought I would throw up some pics of my C. Cranwelli, Slimer. I still am not 100% on the sex yet.

    Enjoy!

Cute frog. I'm not sure about the sex, but he reminds me of my male green when he was a baby.

Great pics! There is no way to tell the sex at this point though.

Slimer is too young to sex, but skull shape at this point tells me its a male. Won't know 100% for another month or so.

Females have a slightly different skull structure than males. Its difficult to explain. We refer to the way a male's skull structure appears as a. juvenile as the baby face where females have a skull shape that is closer to what an adult Pacman's skull is.

Jim Ivory is FAR better at sexing younger Pacmans than I since he has seen thousands of babies from breeding.

I will say that it doesn't always apply to every frog because there is always a few that prove you wrong Lol!

Also females tend to have more "duck bill" shaped mouths while males are somewhat more blunt. However horned frogs aren't like pyxies where it's relatively easy to tell as juveniles.

Hence why I said that there are always a few that prove you wrong. The duck Bill look isn't always a sure sign either as there are males who also have the duckbill. Ornates always have blunt faces where as Cranwelli can be either or, but nearly always have the long snout. Joazeirensis cannot be sexed by skull structure because the shape from baby, juvenile, to adult are almost exact. Their features are very subtle differences that are difficult to see until they reach adulthood. Cornuta being the same way.

I just wanted to share another photo. When I got Slimer the 14th of October he/she wasn't too much bigger than an inch SVL. Now I'd say we're getting near 2.5 inches SVL. They grow up so fast!

Actually my two juvenile sibling Cornuta have skull shape that is very different from each other. So different that I'm sure they are of opposite sex, although they are not nearly sexually mature yet. It's very interesting.
