so glad to hear you and your family, both human and non, made it through sandy safe. hopefully the nor'easter doesn't kick your butts as bad. even for being cold and not eating for a week, they are still some of the most purty red eyes around. makes me green with envy (pun intended)

Food for thought

We woke up to 4 " of snow this AM. What next ! Long Island is a mess.
I have lived here my whole life ( a long time ! ). I don't remember ,ever , seeing so much property damage.

As soon as we can; ( when we will not get ripped off ) we will buying a generator that will be large enough to heat the house!

If my frogs get stressed/ill from this it will be completely MY fault for having NOT been prepared.
We had hot water the whole time. My husband and I must have filled a million gallon water bottles to keep the frogs warm. We were placing them directly into the enclosures. I had the 2 tree frog enclosures covered with comforters to keep the heat in. They did not eat the entire time! They must have been so out-of-it without their day/night cycle.

Congratulations. I'm glad to hear that the hurricane didn't cause too much damage, and that everyone made it through the hurricane safely. But, the congratulations were more for having managed to keep all the frogs alive despite the terrible circumstances. It takes some doing, so congratulations.

Your frogs are gorgeous! Is that last one a black-eyed tree frog? I just obtained a couple red-eyed tree frogs myself; probably a stupid question, but I see that yours are a bit darker in color... I have two, one is very bright and the other seems to be more like the color yours are. Do their colors kind of vary like that? I was worried at first that he was dark because he was cold (long story about how I got them, but the darker one spent the night outside before I adopted them so I just assumed he was stressed and cold).

Anyway, great looking frogs you have! Glad they made it through that!

I'm so glad everyone pulled through!

It's very relieving that they are all starting to eat, yay! Your efforts are great! Such dedication . I can only imagine how much work that was. Great job! And despite you weren't feeling well yourself and I am sure you guys were cold too.

I hope the weather lets up soon there...holy cow! You guys are getting clobbered . The saying is so true....when it rains it sure does pour!!! And snow, and freeze... bleh!

I'm glad you are back. Please keep us posted on how everything is going. They look happy .

Yes.. the last photo .......is a male .... A moreletii ( black eyed tree frog).

There are NO stupid questions.
A red eyed tree frog's colors do vary at night. Temp , humidity, light, mood, interaction with a tank mate, and stress etc can affect their color.
Most of the time mine are a brighter green- even brighter than what you see in these photos. ( they were very stressed when I took these pics) I do not recall a red eyed tree frog of mine having ever been a dark color during the day, however. This would bother me.
I would have to say you should be concerned if your red eyed tree frog stays a dark color during the day ( while it's sleeping) . It's a heads-up !
This would not mean that you frog is doomed.....It happens. But I would, simply, evaluate all the settings , environment within the enclosure (froggie stress,) and the overall health of the frog.
