Thank you, heading out now for Epsom Salt and conditioner. I will not lose this frog like I did my poor Octavian!
Prime comes in three sizes and it'll be in the fish section of the petstore, with other SeaChem products, with the smallest at about $8, medium $12, and large $18. I get the large bottle, and using it to treat all the water for three snakes, a turtle, a millipede, a frog, and a 20 gallon fish tank, a bottle usually lasts me about four to six months. Just to give you an idea of how far it goes.
Dechlorinator doesn't always remove chloramines or heavy metals (which are the problem here). Go with the Prime. It works really well and almost all petstores sell it.
Just wondering, have you already removed your frog from his tank? If not go ahead and do that, even if he'd just be sitting in some treated water. The longer he's exposed to the untreated substrate the worse his problem will get.
Sorry, not trying to disagree with GrifI'm not familiar with the Flukers product, and I'm afraid to recommend something I haven't used before, but if he says it's okay, it is.
No apology necessary. Prime was mentioned by me as one of the best. Repti-Safe is also great, but more expensive. Just about all conditioners and de-chlorinators nowadays remove all of those harmful chemicals and heavy metals. It is always best to stick with what you know works than assume another product is just as good though. No harm no foul.
Haha, I have a tendency to pull up a page, then get distracted and come back to whatever I was writing, then by the time I submit my response about five others have been written. Probably makes me seem pretty redundant a lot of the time.
The only brand I absolutely do NOT trust is Jungle. I don't know if they do reptile-specific stuff or just fish, but their products consistently seem to be poor quality.
I would suggest Zoo Med Reptisafe water conditioner. Use this in water bowl AND when making Eco Earth(slightly less than half a teaspoon). I would raise humidity to 78-80 degrees. A couple red wigglers and a couple crickets is a good diet. Worms>brown crickets nutrition wise. The temp is a bit high. I keep my Bell's Horned frog around 78-80. Once a month substrate change is important.
Okay got an update and a question.
Kermit took to his bath well, he peed in his first bath so I made a different one and put him in it. He jumped out of the second bath twice. He acted as if he was trying to poop? You know the head up eyes closed thing?? How many times do I have to do the baths and when will he go back to normal size?
Is he less bloated or the same? I would do the bath once or twice a day and always follow up with a clean plain warm de-chlorinated soak afterwards.
Was his Urine clear and normal? Or did it smell bad?
EDIT; You say he acted as if trying to poop?? Did he sprawl his legs to the sides and shimmy his hips?? Describe his behavior. He'd up and eyes closed?? That's not normally how they poop?
Give more details. I'm also going to suggest you take him to a vet before performing any more baths because that behavior seems very odd to me.
Well the only comparison I can offer is when he eats. You know how a Pacman frog will lift their head up and open and close their mouth while closing their eyes to further help the food that they ate go down? His urine was clear and normal, nothing abnormal about it and he didn't have his legs splayed when he peed. I put him in his tank on the opposite side he was on and just went back to check on him, he's hopped back to the spot he was at before I gave him his bath.
That $-00.00 check I just got from my job will be spent quickly. He honestly didn't get this big until after I had thrown 4 crickets in his tank, he chased them and 2 went missing and I threw two more in and right now I haven't checked but last night I saw 2 running around.
There's 3 crickets in the tank so he's ate 3, so out of 6 crickets he's eaten 3
3 inches in length and 2 3/4 inches in width, got him in August, always been a voracious eater!
