Do any of you have an outdoor enclosure, or "summer home" for your African bullfrogs that you use when the weather is nice? I was thinking about making a summer home for Rocky next year, and making it as conducive to natural behavior as I can possibly make it. Any thoughts, questions, comments?

It sounds like a cool idea however I'd worry about escape or predators. How would you keep snakes out?
I'm getting my softshell turtle a cattle watering tank, 6 foot diameter, for next summer so he can enjoy the outdoors...I wonder if something similar, but smaller in scale would work? You could then cover it with mesh or screen to keep out predators.
I housed my adult outside 2 summers ago and it was amazing the change in attitude. I just made a frame from 2x6 lumber that was about 5 foot square. The one thing I would suggest is that the cage should have a bottom, mine did not and my male dug a hole under the cage.
How did your frog's attitude change?

A couple of the things I noticed were that he became a lot more active, he would jump into his water and hide when ever I checked on him. He also became a lot more aggressive during feeding. He would dig down at night then emerge in the morning to bask in the sun. His typical behavior when inside is to sit in his water dish or to bury himself and stay under until I dig him out.

Did you have him under any special lighting when indoors? I'm curious as to whether UV lighting and such encourages more natural and active behavior? Mine's under a grow light for plants atm...he's in a fully planted terrarium...wonder if I might need to pick up a UVB bulb for him as well?
Well, I did a Day 1/Day 8 photo on him the other day, and while I don't really have anything in the photo to gauge size, he's definitely filled out in the week and a half he's been here!
The pic is a little deceiving though, as my daughter decided she really wanted to 'pet him on the head' as I was getting my camera ready and he puffed up little bit, lol...didn't think he would do that until he was older! Besides that, he's doing typical froggy things....eating like a pig, digging little pot holes all over the place and lounging in the pool! He adores earthworms, gobbles up grubs, and goes simply bonkers for roaches, even though he has to work hard to catch the speed little devils, lol!
Once more, I just want to say how sorry I am to hear of Rocky's passing. I wish you knew what happened to the poor boy, so hard when things come out of nowhere like that.
I just have him under t5 strip lights or led lights. I think that I might do an experiment with the uv lighting and see if that changes anything.
