Default Question about sealing a waterfall for frog tank

Hi Guys, My name is Mike and I am new to the site. I currently working on building a terrarium for some dart frogs. I now currently have two whites tree frogs and they are happy and healthy in their 18-18-24 tall exo terra tank. I dont have any real plants in with them now, but would like to add some soon.
My question is, what would be a good way to seal the waterfall/rock work I made. I used styrofoam, great stuff gaps and cracks and acrylic paint. I am just very nervous that the paint or sealants can leach out some day and hurt the frogs. I was going to try and use aquarium silicone as a final coating. I tank is an exo terra 18-18-24 wide. I would like to use real plants in this tank.
Thank you all for your help

If it is not already in the tank, I would recommend Krylon clear polyurethane sealant.>Name: Krylon.jpg

Size: 90.5 KB Some have even used it in their fish tanks without any problems. Or you could use GE 2 clear 100% silicone. Make sure to get the window and door, not the bathroom kind. (It has mold inhibitors that would be poisonous to the frogs.) It is as safe as aquarium sealant but cheaper. I heard it will leave a hazy finish, so that is something to consider. I hope this makes sense. I am very tired!

Hi Sherry, Thank you so much for your help. No, its not in my tank yet, so I will be purchasing the polyurethane and GE 2 silicone today. Yes, everything very much made sense. I really appreciate your fast response and I hope you got some sleep. Thanks again

I used a non toxic clear pond sealant that I picked up from my local hardware.

Nice looking waterfall, you'll have to put some pics up when your done :-)

You guys are lucky! I have looked everywhere and can't find any pond sealant like you described. The closest thing we have is 2 part epoxy and silicone.

Hey.......don't knock the 2 part epoxy, that stuff rocks. I used it to seal my pond over flow in my paludarium so the coco fiber wouldn't erode away and sherry is correct, silicone will cure with a hazy film which will get more opaque the longer water runs over it. Take a look at the seams on a tank to get an idea of what it will look like.

I'm not knocking the 2 part epoxy I promise I just haven't found it in clear yet. It always says it is white. I am going to Peoria today so maybe they have some in the hardware stores there.
