I think you should be fine housing them together as long as they are the same size, I've had 3 together for 6 months now and they have no aggression towards each other. I also find the only extra cleaning is that I usually need to change the water every day.

I have to pixies a female and male my male is 8+ inch 800+ grams and my female is 4 1/2 inch and 300 grams i got them both at the same time and have hade them in the same cages ever sence when i got them thay both wear no biger than a haif doller the only time im ever worryed About him hurting hur is durning feeding and even then i dont seperit them so yes it can be done you just have to keep a good eye on them
