Could horn worms be fed as a staple ? Crickets, superworms, earthworms and mice fed on occasion.
Look at this comparison on feeders and you decide. I'm pretty sure they are very high in fat. In a staple you want low fat high protein. Read the info on water content and how that plays a role in the actual value of protien, fat etc.

Hornworms and Silkworms are better off as a weekly treat. Earthworms are by far the best staple out there with varied Roaches coming in second.
Their nutritional value is,
Protein: 9%
fat: 3.07%
Calcium: 46.4mg/100g
Moisture: 85%
so they have a good level of calcium. Low in fat and decent in protein.
Well considering the cost of horn worms as compared to earth worms and or roaches; taking into account the nutritional facts as well. I think they are a good treat and a poor staple IMO.

Huh, I always thought horned worms were a good staple if you could afford them as a staple, interesting. Good thing I used them as treats anyway![]()
