Upon a Youtube random amphibian browsing, I came across this short video on male African Bullfrog fighting. Better yet, it's narrated by David Attenborough. Many of you probably have seen this already, but enjoy it anyway!
Here is a good footage of African Bullfrog's adaptation in parental care.
Yeah, I've watched that first video multiple times, love it. They have some of the best fight moves in the animal kingdom. I've seen the second one, too. It's amazing that these frogs are actually smart enough to be able to do something like that. Awesome animals.. every time I see them I want one. Some day I will cave.. some day.
Wow thanks for sharing Namio. Some of the best, most interesting nature vids I've seen of any animal. Period. So incredible.
Yeah no problem! I'm glad you enjoyed them!
Yes from an intelligence angle it seemed amazing that the frog knows when to dig that channel, but from an evolutionary advantage angle it is no surprise that frogs with such behavior will be more successful in pass their genes in the long run. It's amazing that these frogs are actually smart enough to be able to do something like that.
Yup any frog lover after witnessing their awesomeness will for sure want to get those frogs. That includes myself.Awesome animals.. every time I see them I want one. Some day I will cave.. some day.
We're on the same page. I currently own a dwarf, but REALLY want a giant. They are not "in season" in Calgary tho. Here our weather can drop to -40 degrees in the winter (Celcius, eh) so they could freeze to death in the shipping process. Also, I gotta start trying to incorporate your Hornworm breeding technique to bring down the astronomical feeding costs that I already have with my Rococo.
Those videos are very exciting! African bullfrogs are noted for their aggression and parental care (unusual among frogs). I have kept both giants and dwarfs and personally I like the dwarfs. But everyone has their opinion![]()

Just curious, what makes you favor the Dwarf over the Giant? Different attitudes or what?
Dwarfs have great personality and not as agressive. They are also smaller and easier to keep since I don't have much room.
I have seen a dwarf bullfrog at a local pet shop and it looked pretty much like a cute miniature African bullfrog. Personally I assume most people who purchase African bullfrog is because they find the large size, bold behavior, and appetite appealing.
If I ever get one I want a CB baby that hopefully will turn into a BIG mother male frog!
Great videos! I've actually never seen that first one before, wow!
