Hi all,
I'm still a relative newcomer to frog keeping, even so I will be populating my 5th terrarium this week. Mostly I feed crickets - hatchlings thru' to 3rd instars depending on the frog species - but supplement the smaller frogs diet with various sized fruit flies. As I wish to offer these frogs other alternatives I have been culturing springtails - Fulsoma candida, tropical woodlice - Trichornina tomensoma, and to a lesser extent Pea Aphids, Grain and Bean weavils. The springtails do best on aquarium fish flake and the lice thrive on decaying leaf litter.
So far I have transferred the springtails and woodlice by hand [ tedious! ] to the terrariums but I imagine raising them in situ could be benefical. I know that they will feed on the 'debris' of plant and animal origin but initially [ at least ] they will probably need a localised food supply. Clearly this will need to be 'safe' as the frogs will be in contact with it. So my query - what can I use as a food source?[ at least(Folsomia candida)Folsomia candida) [ species)
