Waxy Monkey Tree Frog Behavior Question

my snake ( beautiful rainbow boa) that i mentioned died because of respiratory blockage, he inhaled substrate and it blocked his airway, we did autopsy, he was very healthy otherwise, it was really weird, one minute he is all happy and eating well, the next day he is dead.

Sorry to hear about your Boa! I found an alternative to the plantation soil I think will work well, it's called tree fern. Another high humidty, but again where I live it's pretty much a high alititude desert so I think it should do just fine. The substrate itself is also not small enough to end up ingested by the frog. The felt's a decent idea, haha but I'm a big fan of trying to keep a really natural look--plus it's helping me anchor some of the branches in place.

She was up again hutning a while tonight and ventured a littel farther into her enclosure, so I'm gald to see she's adapting well! Haha I'm trying to get a video of her hunting I can post..

Thanks! The place in town I got her is really legit. They take excellent care of their animals! Haha I'm quite relieved to see that she snapped out the shock of moving nice and quick. Lol I should have figured that's what was going on though, my Fire Skinks did the same thing when we got those.
I totally agree! I had been eyeing some Red Eyes and these guys for quite a long time, very happy I went with the waxy! I didn't realize how hard they can be to come by until I started looking through what people say about them on the forums.
Should be fun too: I'm a bronze sculptor and I'm in the process of doing a piece with a waxy. Nothing like the real thing to work from!

So I'm actually finding her to be a pretty active frog! Last night she was awake for quite a while before slipping back into being stationary alert, and then was up and about again several times. Managed to get an ok-ish picture...

Another question: I know frogs will shed their skin. Do these guys also? I noticed her on the floor level of the cage this morning near the water, so I'm assuming she probably took a dip last night. I was a little unsure as to why she stayed so low, so I'm checking all the temps again today. At any rate, when she moved up off the substrate to a low limb, I noticed a film that extended from her side to her back leg. Is this likely shedding, the wax, or somethign else?
ALso for Lija: Do you ever mist the enclosure? I've run across a couple things that say you should and a coupel that say absolutely no. Mine holds a daytime percetnage of about 20-30% which i thought was close ot ideal and therefore one you wouldn't mist.

many reasons, one of them - too lazy and full to climb up :lol: if she is all green and happy no need to worry. if you want you can gently move her somewhere higher, she probably won't even notice
they like to take water baths once in a while, it helps them get rid of Ca deposits and also they very often use their water bowls as toilets.

they shed their skin like all frogs do and eat it while doing so, so you won't see it most of the time, that film can be leftovers of her shed
