Ok, so I want to get some fire bellies. I have whites and a green tree frog but am branching out a little. I have read the care articles, but have a silly question.
With my other frogs, I just dump in the crickets and watch them hunt. Worms, etc I put in a glass bowl and they gobble them up.
With fire bellies, I am worried that the crickets will just jump in the water and drown. Also, how do I feed them worms? Do they eat tubiflex worms and stuff I can put in the water? How about freeze-dried foods put in water?
Thanks so much. I am so looking forward to getting my little ones.
They do jump in the water, but if you have rocks in the water, they can usually climb to "safety" (and then get eaten). Also, fire bellied toads rarely let them live long enough to drown .
They won't eat any freeze dried food, it has to be moving.
u can train them to eat dead stuff
they r real nice easy toads
here is the caresheet i wrote

Are your frogs all in the same tank?
When I first got mine I was worried about drowning crickets, but not one has died from drowning once, as they just don't avoid being eaten long enough to. The worst that's happened is I've had to upright a stunned cricket who landed upside down in the water. I've heard reports of some people claiming they can be trained to eat freeze-dried/dead food, but I doubt it's an easy transition.
actually it's easier than u might think
u start by using tweezers to make the food crawl on the ground and if u touch the lower lip of the toad it will reflexively open its mouth and attack the prey
soon they'll hop at the tweezers
i trained my toadlets to eat bloodworms off a bamboo toothpick in 3 weeks
