Default Sexing adult bullfrogs and other issues!

    Hey there,

I believe myself to own a male and a female bullfrog. They live separately. I want to put them in together but I am not 100% that one is female. Would it cause massive problems if they lived together...I think it might. Any advice appreciated!

    Thanks

As long as the enclosure is big enough to hold both frogs and one is not significantly larger then the other, it should be no problem keeping them together.

Males have yellow throats and the tympanum or eardrum is larger than the eye. In the female the tympanum is about the same size as the eye.

I just noticed that you are from the UK. Before that, I assumed what you meant by bullfrog was the American bullfrog, Lithobates catesbeianus (formerly Rana catesbieana) when I wrote my response. If the bullfrog we are talking about is not Lithobates catesbeianus, then disregard my original response.

Yeah, just when I think I have names figured out, a nice sharp kick to my hind-end is given to me. What happened to the genus Rana? Sorry, I can't spell none too good

Rana is still around, example Rana aurora is still Rana aurora. I believe, though I am not 100% sure, that it was Darrel Frost that changed it in 2006.
