Wild Axolotls in trouble; help on way? http://nyti.ms/10gIOFw Axolotl care/natural history The Natural History and Captive Care of the Mexican Axolotl, Ambystoma mexicanum: Natural History - Part 2 | That Reptile Blog
Such awesome animals. I do hope they can make a come back somehow. I would love to have one, if I could find a way to keep the water cold enough to make an ideal set up for one..
Thanks for the feedback; natural habitat seems a lost cause, unfortunately, but there's always hope. Luckily they are well established in captivity; captive stock likely hybridized with neotenic tiger salamanders long ago, but seems not to have done any harm (that we can detect). There are a number of related species isolated in lakes near their natural range. Most unstudied but one, Anderson's salamander, was bred by a hobbyist recently: Conservation Update: Endangered Anderson
Small chillers are available for aquariums..let me know if you nee links, info on sizes, etc.
Best, Frank
