Question Re: Well, what do you know......

In the interest of trying to find out the sex of my buddy, hoping the more experienced owners can help me out. I received Tad along with 2 others as tadpoles the first week of May. Within a month the other 2 had died, but Tad kept on going. It seemed like it took FOREVER to start getting her little arm/leg nubbins, and I think she became a full fledged frog in late summer. So, she is still pretty young. I've been looking closely at her backside for a sign of a cloacal extension, and I do see something, however to me it resembles an almost bony protrusion. Almost as if it is still a bit of the tail......I tried to get a good shot of her backside in my last post, but this was the best I could get as she didn't want to sit still long enough for me to zoom in..LOL

I've been doing a lot of looking online but so far have not seen any great pics of what a female looks like. She is very quiet and loves to just float around on the top of her tank.....that is part of what is leading me to thing she is really a she. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!!

At first glance your frog looks like a male to me. Not all males will have black arms especially when females are not present. I have males and females and neither of my males have black arms. I assume they are not interested in the ladies and I am OK with it. A close up of the first pic would make it easier to tell.

I'm betting you have a female... my male is SO very talkative. Last night it was almost constant croaking. Here's a good picture I found online of female parts:

P.S. the "stitches" are their sensory organs/lateral line. Since they have no eardrums, tongue or moveable eyelids (and their eyes are on top of their heads) they use their franken-stitches to sense changes in the water around them.

Pretty cool! You can see them really well on my guy since he's albino.
Oh! and here's another picture of his absolutely male cloaca: (Kind of slightly protrude-y but not as much as the female in the first pic)
