Hi everyone
I have had 3 adf frogs for over a year now, (2 female, 1 male). They shared a tank with a male and female betta in that time. A little over a month ago my male betta died and 2 days later the frogs went crazy mating!!
Long story short, I separated 8 eggs from being eating from my female betta like the others and they are now almost 5 weeks old, all but one has survived.
The tadpole have arms and legs now but still have tails. I have been feeding them live bbs all along and am now wondering if I should introduce some different live food? Which kinds? Where do I find them? They do not have any interest in pellets/non-live foods.
Im also wondering if it is ever necessary to separate a male adf from the females? Mine sings every night-all night and grabs the females every night. I now also have 4 day old tadpoles but aside from that one night my females want nothing to with him. I am concerned he is stressing them since almost every night he grabs them and they seem to play dead.
Please excuse my grammar and spelling. I wrote this from my phone![]()
As far as feeding goes perhaps you can move up to adult brine. Daphnia is another good food. You really need to get them over to frozen/thawed foods at this point. That will open up so many healthy options for you. The only taps I ever had sucess with were the ones that took to the frozen/thawed foods. It was just too hard to get/maintain other live foods up here.
I wouldn't worry about him stressing the females out. You have a 2-1 ratio and he can only "stress out" 1 at a time so someone is getting a break.
Thanks for the reply.
i just purchased some frozen daphnia and have tried it 2 times. A few tads ate some but they sunk so fast that it made more of a mess than anything. I'm going to try feeding them the frozen daphnia once a day then half hour later give them the bbs. Do they generally take time to get used to it?
P.s. I'm so excited, one of my tad absorbed it's tail over night- I officially have a froglet!
I find some dwarf frogs never get it. The one's your looking to raise are the ones that get it. They will thrive incredible well and be long lived. Patience and persistance are key. It sounds like you have it under control though. Variety is the way to go. Once you introduce spirilina enriched brine shrimp you'll be in good shape as they already like and are used to brine. The enriched brine has a lot more nutrition.
It would not be a bad idea to try some prepared food also. I like just about any formula of NLS (New Life Spectrum). There is no food that can compare to it for fish and amphibians. They have some that are tiny for "baby" animals. I believe Big Al's in Hamilton will have it.
Feeding the baby brine spirilina is a good idea. What do you feed them now?
Here is a link for NLS. Most of the formulas are the same just differents amounts of ingredients and different sizes. Community, Small Fish, Finicky, or Fry formula would be my recommendations. I have had dwarfs and newts eat it exclusively and thrive.

I haven't been feeding them at all. I only hatch what they can eat that day? Now that the tads are bigger I suppose I should feed the bbs and let them grow a bit bigger. I was under the impression bbs where healthiest if eaten within 12 hrs of hatching.
