When I kept pacman frogs I had a layer of 2-3 inches of fine coconut fibre, with fake plants and a shallow water bowl I changed every few days. I never found they use hides, though they like to have a lot of leaf litter and other debris near which (or in the middle of which) to bury themselves.

Nope, cold shock - I haven't lived anywhere this cold before. Lesson learned and I don't intend to repeat it.

I also found my pacman doesn't use hides, he actually tries to avoid hides, caves or even being under a fake plant. For feeling secure he just digs himself in the soil. He does like to feel something next to him when he digs himself in though. I just have this wood stomp and water dish he likes to wedge in between there. My set up is just soil, water dish and a wood stump and he seems fine with that.

mine just have coir sub & a shallow water dish .
anything else just gets uprooted or stomped .
as frogs go they are about the hardest to get a "nice" looking tank to work due to their lunking clumsiness
