I'd recommend getting a piece of glass cut a little smaller that the inside dimensions and siliconing it in on top of the broken glass. Make sure to seal all around the edges and use at least double strength glass. A sheet of glass that is just under 36 inches by just under 18 inches shouldn't cost more than $20.
