I had a dwarf for some time now (sold to me as a giant) and came across a real giant (i think) at pet smart for $26.00. I was told they had it for a a few months and its grown rapidly, its head is huge the body to head ratio tells me its a male and the three green stripes on the back leads me to believe its young. can any one confirm my suspensions![]()
looks like an adolescent african bullfrog
man, the only frogs i ever see at my petsmarts are green tree frogs (maybe) and the occasional pacman. that's still a nice find either way. congrats![]()

Definitely a giant. Congrats!
PS it looks a little bit female to me, but I am by no means an expert at this![]()
anyone else think its a female? Ill post a few more pics tomorrow.
does it got any reds and oranges under the armpitt?
here's my male LuiEe![]()
its got orange around the top of the armpit and a little on the side........do these pics help![]()
i would say it's a male but if you start to see some reds developing under the armpitt it's a male for sure i guess time will tell but it got a nice fat head on him i am going w a male.
From what I have heard, color is not a reliable way to sex these frogs. Some have had females with orange armpits and some have had males with no orange.
We need an expert here
It was very late when I was looking at those pics last night.
Gonna change my vote to male![]()
Looking at the 1st pic to me is definitely a male.
Look at the head-body ratio,in this case that would be enough to say it's a male...the armpit colour,as told before, is not a reliable way to sex them.
My male has no orange in his armpits, just a pale yellow...look at him![]()
It's extremely stressed I can't even enter the room without it grunting and charging the glass puffed up with its mouth open ????
Is there any way I can calm it Down, it was fine yesterday and this morning it's gone batcrazy ???
definitely a boy! no need to add more stress to him nowhe's got a huge wide head in comparison to his body, that is especially visible in the last 2 pic. or just look at the very first pic - his head looks massive here too. he is youngster still, teenager

Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
Nope no hides, now that i think about it he had a gazibo in the pet shop they had to get him out of. ill add somthing for him today, i did put a sheet over and he calmed down for now. Thanks Lija.
you're welcome. put something where he can hide, not necessarily actual hide like for reptiles, he will outgrow it in no time, piece of wood with plants handing down would do or something like that and cover 3 sides of the tank.

I think its a female, eyes kind of buggy and closer together. keeping it either way! the head is big and lumpy lol but when its burried my suspicions seem right, a female!! its my first giant and ill keep everyone up to date as it grows, its a **** shoot for me to guess, I have no expertise or even knowledge raising a giant.![]()
Time will tell!!!!!
I'm not going to be disappointed either way, guesses stay tuned if u think its a boy you will find out, I'm raising this frog on "frog forum" lots of pics in store. It's head is huge but it's missing orange under its arms, can females have a big head?
