Sometimes that big lump can just be a big poop. When is the last time he's pooped? I had a frog I bought that didn't go for like a week.. I soaked him daily in lukewarm water, 80ish degrees, with some honey drops. When he was done soaking for 20 minutes or so, I'd put him in his bowl in the enclosure. Finally after doing that a couple times he took a huge dump. He's probably just backed up a bit... and knowing petsmart, he wasn't on the right substrate or being fed the right food.

Just monitor him like you are and give him his soaks, also giving him a soak with unflavored pedialyte helps too. It can be mixed with water with a 10/1 water ratio, so for 10 ounces of water, you'd use 1 ounce of pedialyte. I've never done this, but I've seen it suggested many times. Especially for sickly animals that need a boost.

I have seen the warm bath temperature mentioned on this forum many times as being 80 degrees and not to go over. I believe this is a common misconception. Bare in mind a typical Pacman frog tank is 80 or slightly higher, and the water bowl thats already in the tank will have equalized to the temp in the tank. So for some, a 79 to 80 degree bath is actually a slightly cold bath. Remember, a standard swimming pool temp is around 86 and that feels fairly cool to the touch.
I took this into practice with my toad who hadnt had a bowel movement in a few days. She wasnt impacted but I could see she was uncomfortable. I put her in a bath nearing 90 degrees which sounds hot but it isnt. Its lukewarm and safe. She started flowing almost emmediately and stayed in the bath for quite a while.

Yeah, usually thats about the temps I use for my frogs too. I try to make the water 85ish. I just said 80 to be safe, to me anything below 80 isn't really enough. I have one frog who only will go to the bathroom if I set him in water that's roughly 80-90. I do this about every 1-2 weeks so he'll poop regularly.

For me Ive found the greatest success with water over 85. Water will always adjust to the temperature outside over time. A small puddle like they would encounter in the wild (They could drown in a large puddle) will be moving in temperature almost exactly equal to the change in temperature outside. Over 90 degree days are very common in the tropics and I think it is probably a way frogs will naturally regulate their bowels in nature. By hopping into a nice warm puddle.

I use a decent sized container they are unlikely to jump out of but least 2 - 3 times their length/width, with lukewarm water, then put the container in the sink with water a bit warmer, thus keeping it warm for longer. When the sink water cools, I warm it up again with warm water, for a total of about 20 - 30 minutes.

Most pacs get impacted at some point in their life. It's easy to treat, but if you keep one for very long you're going to have to learn to do it.

Was there something else wrong with it, or just the lump?

    my thoughts exactly!
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!

Sorry to hear that your other frog didn't make it, Jaba. Hopefully this next one does good for you. It's always kind of a risk buying pets from a place like petsmart, but atleast they refund/replace the animal if you have trouble. Good luck with your new guy, glad to hear he's already stalking his food.

Even though it's kind of depressing to sign a piece of paper that says you can bring your pet's corpse back with the receipt and get a new one for two weeks
