    Default Surinam Toad

    Hey Everyone,

I am looking for a Surinam Toad to keep and I can't ever seem to find any. Does anyone know a good place to get a Surinam Toad from.

Also, any care tips would be very much appreciated.

    Thank you all!

A have heard some pretty negative things about a couple of those sites, backwater and first choice in particular. I've never personally ordered from them though so I can't say from experience. Just make sure you read up and look for reviews before ordering stuff from a supplier.

There are also a couple adds on kingsnake.com as well.

kingsnake.com Classifieds: Pipa Pipa Frogs (#3227) and kingsnake.com Classifieds: Pipa Pipa (Surinam Toads)

    Good luck getting your toad.

Am I the only one who is a bit skeptical about receiving animals via mail? lol

Definitely not, I wouldn't order animals through the mail unless I absolutely trusted the person doing the sending. I'd always try to get my animals locally first before resorting to having them shipped.. and always look for reviews, especially from sites/sellers that appear to have everything.

Useful info is scarce on them. Here is a thread from a couple of months ago though that should help you out a bit.

I have been keeping Suriname toads for quite some time. They are somewhat demanding and best suited for a person who has some experience with aquatic frogs. They do require a large aquarium (10-20 gallons per frog, depending on size). Water quality is critical as with any aquatic species. Make sure the frog is healthy and in good condition.

I suggest getting Pipa parva, if available. They are smaller and less demanding.

FYI: When the eggs of Pipa parva, P. myersi, and P. carvalhoi hatch, tadpoles emerge. P. pipa give birth to fully formed toadlets.

That is amazing. These are now on my "someday" list.

Thank you all very much. And I agree. I have never received any of my animals from online, but I almost never see these guys locally. I have seen them at a local reptile show once, and I was thinking of looking again for one there before I buy mine online.
