Yes, they need to be in an aquarium with room to jump and swim, not all boxed up, that is cruel. Do not use fish gravel, use smooth pebbles (too big for them to eat) or eco earth reptile substrate, they even like sand but I don't use that, too easy to ingest and hard to clean when you rinse out tank. Please get them an aquarium, they aren't expensive. I got my screened lid at petco and I also have a small heater in my water. They like land and water both. Mine eat crickets and worms. Yes they will escape without a lid. Have you ever had reptiles before or is this a first pet? Write if you have more questions, just please get them out of those boxes, they deserve a natural safe setting, like a glass tank. Thanks
