Tried using it once just to feed a fish on to keep the substrate clean. She got a decent chunk of it with her when she went to eat the fish. Paper towel is fairly good for impaction but enough will imapct and herp and its not worth the risk. And naturally nowhere on the planet has paper towel as its natural flora so I doubt any creature would be happier on it then soil.
Would it make a difference? Both are an impaction risk in my opinion. The one time I put paper towel in my frogs tank she ate a good chunk of it
Every substrate you can use comes with a risk of impaction, some are just less risky than others. He can't get coco fiber or soil he said and he asked if he can use paper towel, which you can. Paper towel is a much better option than what he is using currently, gravel. It does pose a risk, but not as big of a risk as gravel would. Just be careful when feeding, perhaps even remove the paper towel when you do feed and use that time to do your daily change as well.
