My adult Ceratophrys cornuta girl, Grumpy, a wild caught animal imported from Surinam.
She got this name not because her temper is grumpy, in fact, she's very shy and nice to me. I gave her that name because she simply looks "grumpy." On the other hand, I think all Cornuta look grumpy.
She's about 4 inch SVL. A quarter shown for size reference.
About a couple of pictures in, I smell something funny. Guess what? It's my ice-cream maker making rocky road.
Ah, her majesty needed to do what she had to do. So about 5 minutes later, the photo shoot continued.
In a cardboard box this time because I had to clean her "toilet."
I don't see no nuptial pad.
She's so cute! But I wonder if she's gravid so I flipped her belly up. I couldn't see any eggs.
I have to admit to you but I am a huge huge huge grumpy fan. The first time I saw grumpy I fell inlove with her colors. She is currently by background picture. I would love a autograph! lol . So beautiful.
cool frog !!
Awesome cornuta. Really fat and healthy..
your frog looks awesome..im trying to learn how to raise them. id like to have 2 for myself .very nice frog..
They're difficult to care for and most wild caught babies and adults are full of parasites and need deworming and need to through antiprotozoa antibiotic treatments as well. Most are also trouble eaters and don't have much of a feeding responce. Most imports die even after going through all the treatments from stress or old age. No way of knowing how old the adults are. You will also have to rid them of Chytrid which is a long stressful set of daily baths for 10 days.
So called CB babies can be less of a problem feeder, but no guarantees.
I'm not a fan of wild caught frogs, but, wow, is he beautiful! He looks like a male to me. Any idea of how old the frog is? I hope he/she fairs well for you. I'd also recommend the treatments Grif has noted, to be safe.

This is one of Namio's old posts. Grumpy is female. The dark feet and black throat aren't in any way how to sex these ffogs Lol! Even though it should be. Males do tend to have a slightly darker throat than females, but Nuptial pads are hard to see on C. cornuta due to their already dark feet.
Didn't even look at the date. I'm scrolling through 'timeline'. Did this frog live?

Yes she is. Its sad that so many of these animals die after importation because most of the people who buy them don't realize what they need to do inorder to make these frogs healthy, but even after treatment there is no guarantee. C. cornuta are fragile at best and I see any C. cornuta as an expert level frog. Not easy to keep and every C. cornuta in my opinion is a special needs frog.
Agreed!

i was wpndering if u could share some info on proper tub/tank set up and care for them..i want to get some and need the info for proper care ..thanks
lovely frog loving the horns on it tho and looking healthy
The tank setup and care are similar with Cranwelli but with higher humidity. But like Grif said, most Cornuta refuse to feed in captivity, so unless you are experienced and be willing to force-feed (or semi-force feed) you're frog, don't get one. Another thing with Cornuta is that many are wild-caught animal which in itself is another problem (read what Grif has said above about WC animals). I admit that I made that mistake by purchasing a WC animal and Grumpy still an unwilling feeder, I'd recommend folks to either stay away from Cornuta, or purchase a captive-bred baby and train it to tong-feed with nightcrawler pieces from the get go. Having that said, Grumpy is doing great! Looking lovely as always!
it was that "other" frog that did it !! i swear
