Default Brand New Pac man/ Amphibian owner.

I have my little guy in a 10 gallon tank with.

    Vines/Leaves for over head cover.
    Half log for shelter.
Water bowl deep enough/Big enough for him to soak in.
    Tropical Soil Substrate.
    An Under tank heater.
Some moss at every corner of the tank.
    Hygrometer/ Thermometer
And a low wattage fixture with what I think is a 15watt day time bulb.

I'm new at keeping amphibians, and I hope I'm doing everything right.

He's about 6 months. At least that's how long ago I got him.

Is that a good size for his age?

    Here's another pic of him

He's also a very pick eater.. He's pretty much been on a cricket diet. I've tried waxworms with tongs, but he doesn't got for them. I also tried Earthcrawlers once, and I think he only ate one?

Is he big enough for pinkies? What else can I feed him?

    Any tips/advice would help

Hello fellow long islander and pacman owner! What a rarity! .

You have such a beautiful and healthy looking pacman frog! I'd love to see your actual set up of the tank - sounds all good but I really wouldn't suggest the moss.

My pacman frog currently eats crickets but I am switching him over to night crawlers and I am having the same issue. Another member told me to get the frog to try other food you might have to play the waiting game with them for a day or two. Pinkies only once or twice a month. Silkworms and hornworms are a good option(but I couldn't find a place locally that carries them). Also I heard a lot of success with pacman mix that comes in silver zip up packages. I wouldn't suggest waxworms because of there hard exoskeleton is hard to digest. .

I'm so excited to run into another frog lover and long islander! friend me here and if you have facebook my link is below!

Why wouldn't you suggest the moss? I thought it might help with the humidity.

I guess I could try nightcrawlers again.
Do you think my frog is big enough for pinkies?

And I sent you a friend request on here :P

Edit: Here's a pic of the habitat,

I also find it very creepy that you can see his eyes to the left of the log haha.

welcome to the forum! you have a very nice frog

moss = risk of impaction, take it out.
substrate, i can't see, but looks too dry. you should change the whole thing to eco earth it have to be moist but not mud like.

where do you have UTH? i don't see and suspect it is actually under tank, if that so, take it out asap and attach to the side, before your frog burned himself.

water in a dish shouldn't be deeper then frogs chin.

try nightcrawlers or roaches - the better options then crickets, but if you use them make sure they're gut loaded. pacman food is very good, but it doesn't move so frogs have to be tong trained to eat it. mice - once a month max, you can try live pinkie.
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!

Haha, yeah! Isn't it great? Your frog may even be large enough for a hopper but I would play it safe by feeding a mouse no bigger/older than a fuzzy.

He's a very picky eater it's actually quite annoying haha. I want to try night crawlers but I just dangle it in front of him and he just stares it like "That's cool, but where's my crickets?"
I just bought box of them today, and he just stared at it haha. I've tried Nightcrawlers, Wax Worms, and crickets, Crickets are about the only thing he really likes.

I work at a pet store so it's quite easy to get everything.

OH and btw.... His name is Sir Hopsalot

When I switched mine over to nightcrawlers, I had to 'cheat' at first by putting the tip of a nightcrawler chunk in her mouth as she was finishing up a roach. Also, you can try rubbing the nightcrawler along the frog's lips or gently pushing at its mouth with the worm. Once they realize the worms are food they will usually start taking them easily.
