I am planning my first terrarium build for this summer, still unsure on which species of frog I am going have (currently bidding on 2 second hand tanks, so could have a tank for each) but am trying to work out the logistics of it all now and have a few questions. Would be cool to do a long tank with a big water feature for bell frogs, and a tall one for tree frogs...
Currently assembling a mental list of all the supplies I will need, have managed to find stockists of egg crate and LECA in my city (woohoo!), still trying to figure out what kind of plants I can find here, and have got sources for most of the other stuff I think I will need (everything having different names makes it hard to look for for... No idea what our version of great stuff is called!).
First questions are in regards to water.
Can misters or foggers draw water from inside the tank (e.g. From under the false bottom?)
If so, would it be feasible to have a false bottom tank circulating water with a waterfall/stream leading to a pond also supplying a mister, or is the quality of that water likely going to be unsuitable for a mister?
Which leads to my next question in regards to water quality, would it be a good idea to have an undergravel filter or something similar set up in the false bottom to keep the water a bit clean?
Is it just a little bit ridiculous to have a filter, light, mister, pump and heater? Would probably be noisy??
Tank set up questions...
Do you hide your cables behind the tank background? I can see how that would work with a polystyrene background, but if you are putting foam on you could not do that right?
Where do your cables exit the tank? Do all of your upright tanks have lids on the top? Or holes drilled?
I will be getting regular 'ole fish tanks, and am not super confident with the whole drilling holes and cutting glass thing... My dad said he can probably do a little glass cutting to make a lip for the front of a tall terrarium, but would not try to make a whole tank... If i make a fish tank into an upright terrarium how do I get around the top being a solid pane of glass?
Sorry for all the questions haha, can you tell I'm excited?
