Anybody know why these are so hard to come by? They come from the same general region as all other Pacmans, their conservation status is listed as "Least Concern" and yet they are next to impossible to get a hold of. Whats the deal?
Brazil banned the exportation of their fauna decades ago. A few rare ones have been probably either smuggled illegally or wild caught and imported from parts of their region along the Brazil borders somewhere.
I did not know about the Fauna ban. Still though you would think with all the specimens that have made it out of the country, people would have started breeding them and eventually the population in the pet trade would have exploded. As with all other animals native to Brazil that have become popular in captivity.
It can be difficult to establish a species in the pet trade from a slim wild caught stock. Most of them were kept in zoo collections, which probably werent at the time interested in breeding them into the pet trade or establishing them as a captive bred animal. I'm sure thanks to Frog Ranches efforts, we may start seeing them more established in Herpetoculture.
I might have some imported cbb babies in the spring. They cost a lot though.
