Hi guys,
I know im a few months early but I want to know ahead of time so I can plan somthing else if it isnt going to happen. I have a small koi pond in my backyard with 3-4 frogs in it and I think they are going to become able to mate this year. My Koi pond is about 18 inches deep is that to deep for them to lay eggs? Also my pond has been frozen on the surface but I read that if their isnt an open area then no oxygen will be transfered into the water and they will sufficate in their sleep? Is this true? I havent really broken the ice because im afraid i might damage them in some way. So Today in Massachusetts belive it or not it was 55 degrees and the temperature is still increasing as we speak. The ice has mostly melted off and theres open water is it to late for them? Its been more than a few days when the surface has been frozen. Thanks,
Ella
Everything sounds fine except for the Koi. They will eat newly hatched tadpoles with gusto.

Thank John,
Dont worry I dont have Koi in that pond. I just but a Koi pond because I couldnt talk my family into making such a big project in my backyard. Another thing, if Bullfrogs are in the pond are they able to eat all the eggs in one night? Because if the frogs lay the eggs at night then their wouldnt be hope for the eggs..
i don`t konew but i don`t tkink so![]()

Im from Stoughton, not the most exciting town Ive lived in lol.
I doubt the bullfrogs will eat the eggs - they will eat the tadpoles though when they hatch.

Since you're in Stoughton, you come to the next NEHS meeting. It will be held at the NEWC in South Weymouth not to far from you. I will be there, as I am director and maybe I can rally some of the New England frog people there. Maybe John will come.
