    Default How long before eating

How long is the normal time for a fantasy to settle in a start eating? They said he was a good eater at the pet store. It's only been 3 nights so I'm not too worried yet.

It can take up to a week or so for them to get settled in and begin to feel comfortable in their new surroundings, but depends greatly on the individual frog.

It took my Fantasy about 3 days before he ate after bringing him home. He wouldn't eat from tongs, or eat while I was "present". After several attempts of feeding him I finally just dropped 3 or 4 dusted crickets in his enclosure and peeped around the side to watch. Once he felt that I was gone he snapped them up as soon as they got near.

Even now he will only occasionally eat from tongs, and generally only eats once I remove my hand and tongs from the enclosure (I only feed him nightcrawlers and hornworms now).

My guy has been kind of skittish from day one, and have heard of similar reports from other Fantasy owners on this and their reluctance towards feeding. I assume this could be attributed to the cornuta side, since cornutas can sometimes be difficult feeders (but certainly not all). It can just depend on the frog.

Give him some time and try to be as stealth as possible until he gets more accustom to his surroundings and routine. Covering three sides of the enclosure helps, too.

Edit: Of course also make sure the temps and humidity are in the proper ranges to help induce appetite.

He gobbled up 3 good sized crickets tonight. He let me watch. I was hoping to get him tong trained. He really doesn't want anything to do with that yet.
