New terrarium set up for my fantasy frog!

He is in unchlorinated watered coconut fibers. In a cage by himself with a temperature range of 75 to 80 and moisture at tropical. He eats about 3-4 crickets a day. lighting during the day. Anyone see any errors in my set-up? I want to make sure he stays healthy and happy as much as possible. I am a new pacman frog owner and I am nervous. Thank you!

That is an adorable frog!! Daytime temps should be between 80-85 and nighttime temps should be 75-80. Humidity should be 80%. The substrate should be moist but not soaking. Here is a pic for reference of a pacman setup I made for a pac I will be getting soon She will most likely dig up my plants, but we shall see. I also want to add a little coco hut hide for her.

The tank is soaking because I want to make sure the froggy stays in the right humidity - I am going to follow what Heatheranne said and put some foil over half of the lid. Do you guys recommend moss? The temperature is truly never a battle especially with the overhead light. Thanks sunshine for the picture of your setup it looks great! I am going to look into a hiding place for him. Also. Officially his name is Prince Charming. .

Your overall set-up is fine. I wound recommend a hiding spot like a cave or half hollowed log and a plant for some shade. I'd add background covers to the back and two sides. This will make him feel secure. Your substrate is a smidge too wet. Try using a piece of plexiglass, Saran Wrap, or foil over 1/2 of the lid. Be sure to keep and lamps off and slightly away from the Saran. This will help keep humidity in so you don't have to most as much.

Yes, I had the same dilemma with the muddy substrate when I first started with mine. If you add moss, be sure to tong feed. Never feed on top of it so he won't accidentally eat it when lunging at his food. It causes impaction. I would use live sheet moss if you decide to. I'm not a fan of moss bc of the risk. I have a fake tree plant in mine which works well. If you add some plants they help to hold the moisture in like spraying under an umbrella. The moisture drops linger on the underside of them.

I had to fiddle a bit when I first started with my pac tanks. I actually ended up having glass cut to 3/4 the top of my tanks. The glass cutters sanded the edges. It works very well. I just can't put my lamps over it or they glass will crack. I measured the area so I have a little over an inch around the lamp for the glass to clear the hot areas.



Tip for you...to keep your substrate from growing mold and anaerobic bacteria, every few days turn it. Flip the bottom substrate to the top and stir it around the tank. This puts oxygen in the bottom, which the anaerobic bacteria do not like, decreasing the speed at which it multiplies. It also distributes the moisture evenly.

Such a pretty pac! In my limited experience with pacs, they can become stressed rather easily and will refuse food. I suggest you get plants (either real or fake) to create a more natural looking environment and maybe someplace for him to hide. Also, keeping the temp very stable is preferable. I had a lot of trouble with humidity, even with plastic wrap on the top. I ended up not using an incandescent bulb because of how badly it dried out the enclosure. I was using a UTH (under tank heater) stuck on the side of the tank. The problem with those is that I find them to be horribly unreliable. Unfortunately my poor little pac died before I could work out all the kinks. Poor little guy just was never healthy from the time I got him. My suggestion for humidity would be to get a second dish of water and put it directly under the lamp so that the water evaporates into the tank. And I totally agree with Heather, make sure you stir up the substrate every few days so that bacteria doesn't build under all of the cocofiber. Good luck!

could i sugest you cover 3 side of your tank with some sort of back ground it realy helps make them feel sucure and happy
