Arrow ADF aquarium filter/ tank mates

hi everyone! i already posted this question on caudata, but someone said to come here for more info. so here i am (:

i want to get a 5.5 gallon aquarium for one ADF. what kind of filter would you recommend? would a zoomed 318 do the job? also, what kind of fish would be okay to keep in there? i hear good things about female bettas.

Aquarium Filters: Fluval Nano Internal Aquarium Filter

Maybe something like this? I like the fact you can direct the flow via the spray bar. That would really be great for a ADF since they don't swim so well.

would you still suggest the sponge over that, or do you think they're about the same?

I've never used a sponge so I dont know much about them but I've heard them be suggested.

I like that other filter though for an ADF cause you can control the out flow.. which is cool for an internal filter.

I'd go with the sponge. It's cheaper, does not produce a lot of turbulance, it is easy to maintain, and they have small ones for that tank. As far as tank mates go my favorite all time dwarf frog tank mate is other dwarf frogs. These frogs appreciate each others company. I have kept anywhere from 3-5 dwarf frogs in a 5.5 with great success. I am sure others will argue about overstocking, but I don't believe 5 is unrealistic. You just need to keep up on your maintainance.
I have had luck with bettas too in the past, but I have also had couple that were complete jerks.

thank you both for responding. i guess ill try out a sponge filter and see how that goes.
i asked about the 318 canister because i already have it for a 10 gallon, but its not strong enough to keep up with my newt. i have to clean it at least once a week /:
and hmm, i don't really want to risk a fight between the frog and the betta, so i suppose i just will get another frog for company (:

I keep eight adf in a three foot tank with guppies, rainbow shark, clown loach, khoolie loach, zebra botia and a breeding pair of angels. I have seen some large angel fish but mine appear to have stayed relatively small, I would not recomend angels as tank mates for adf in general but it works for me. I have had no problems with fish on frog aggression , infact the fish tend to stay away from them as they are averse to being bumped by the frogs when they come up for air, as they tend to try to swim through the fish rather than around them. I am planning on an adf only tank as the only problem I have is feeding the adf live food as the fish tend to beat them to it. The tank is full of live plants and has lots of hides. I use a fluval 3 as a filter.

That usually is the most common problem. The fish are faster and often beat frogs to the food. It can lead to other problems like overfeeding the tank..ie water quality issues or just outright starvation of the frogs. Frog only is the way to go. If you have enough frogs in the tank it is really entertaining.
