ADF aquarium filter/ tank mates

hi everyone! i already posted this question on caudata, but someone said to come here for more info. so here i am (:


i want to get a 5.5 gallon aquarium for one ADF. what kind of filter would you recommend? would a zoomed 318 do the job? also, what kind of fish would be okay to keep in there? i hear good things about female bettas.

How about a sponge filter?

im not familiar with those. i always use canisters for my amphibians. what brand do you suggest? ill look into it (:

Maybe something like this? I like the fact you can direct the flow via the spray bar. That would really be great for a ADF since they don't swim so well.

would you still suggest the sponge over that, or do you think they're about the same?

I've never used a sponge so I dont know much about them but I've heard them be suggested.

I like that other filter though for an ADF cause you can control the out flow.. which is cool for an internal filter.

I'd go with the sponge. It's cheaper, does not produce a lot of turbulance, it is easy to maintain, and they have small ones for that tank. As far as tank mates go my favorite all time dwarf frog tank mate is other dwarf frogs. These frogs appreciate each others company. I have kept anywhere from 3-5 dwarf frogs in a 5.5 with great success. I am sure others will argue about overstocking, but I don't believe 5 is unrealistic. You just need to keep up on your maintainance.
I have had luck with bettas too in the past, but I have also had couple that were complete jerks.
